After weeks of prepping for the event, sorting out our stand and tweeting all about it….the biggest conference in the North was finally upon us, The Yorkshire Mafia Conference.
The conference was held at the Royal Armouires in Leeds on the 21st and 22nd of March. As soon as we arrived at the event the atmosphere had a really buzz and everyone was full of enthusiasm for what the two day conference had in store. With around 150 businesses exhibiting at the conference, over 3000 delegates expected over the two days and an exciting seminar list the event was set to be a great networking event for all involved full of opportunities and prospects.
We were exhibiting at the conference in the Armouries Hall on stand 8. We’d already set up our stand on Tuesday afternoon so only had a few last minute things to do to get our stand ready, however our trusty Touch Tower which we take along to all conferences blew the screen just before the conference started. It tripped all the electric on our side of the conference hall, leaving many of the stands without electricity. Although the Touch Tower was still a good attraction to have at our stand we couldn’t manage to fix it to load our presentation about our products and services, plus we had lists of memorable geographical numbers which where for sale and available on the day.
It was a fantastic location for our stand as we were right next to the entrance for the seminars being held in the Bury Theatre, which meant we had a good flow of traffic passing by our stand throughout the two days. If you want to know more about what was going on at our stand visit our previous blog post – ‘Why you should visit us at Stand 8 at The Yorkshire Mafia Conference.’ Read the rest of this entry

A CAREER in communications was always on the cards for Paul Robertshaw.
Even as a student at Salendine Nook High School, Paul had ambitions to help get the message across.
“I wanted to get into the media and radio,” he says. “When I was young, I did a bit of ‘DJ-ing’ and followed some of the DJs on radio stations like Kiss.
“When I left school, I did a BTec national diploma in the subject at Huddersfield Technical College and passed with distinction, but after leaving college there were not a lot of opportunities to get into the industry.”
Keen to get into the world of work, Paul followed the advice of a family friend and got a job with Aspley-based Travelworld – at that time a fast-growing business in a booming industry.
He remained with the business following its takeover by Airtours until 2004 as help desk supervisor.
Paul later moved to Safe Style Windows at Bradford as telephone engineer before moving from a strictly IT environment to telephony as communications manager looking after £40,000 of customer accounts.
When recession hit, Paul took the opportunity for voluntary redundancy and joined his present employer, Golcar-based ME Consultancy, where his telecoms experience is being put to good use in his role as sales development manager.
Forget Me Not saves £30,000 on phone installations
West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice recruited Golcar-based ME Consultancy Ltd to help cut telecom costs at its new hospice building in Brackenhall.
Charity chief executive Peter Branson awarded ME Consultancy the contract to supply broadband to outlets owned by the charity as well as providing the telecoms requirements for the new hospice building.
Because the hospice was being built in an area with no current telephone provision, the original installation costs were going to be very high – exceeding £30,000 – to cover the cost of digging up the roads and laying new cables.
“Knowing that £30,000 could keep a child and their family looked after full time for over a year in the new hospice, we were determined to save them as much of that money as possible.
ME Consultancy worked closely with BT Openreach to ensure that the hospice had all the services needed from the moment the building was completed – with the final installation cost below £1,500.
ME Consultancy Ltd provides customers with advice on their telecoms expenditure and ways to receive the best value for money from the services required.
The firm can provide a full review of voice and data spend and provide access to a wide range of products from its wholesale portfolio.
It also manages a multi level billing platform covering fixed line, wholesale, data and mobile.
ME Consultancy Ltd is one of many companies that will be taking part in the Kirkwood Hospice ‘Bring a Pound to work day’. For every £1 donated a draw ticket will be entered into the Kirkwood Hospice Lottery Super Draw on Friday 23rd December, when one lucky supporter is going to win £3,000.
The Pulse & Pulse 2 will once again be helping Kirkwood Hospice raise awareness of their ‘Bring a Pound to Work’ fundraising day. In 2010, participants helped raise £6,000 that all went towards patient care.
ME Consultancy Ltd had a great day exhibiting at the Techmesh IT & Telecoms EXPO last Thursday at Leeds Royal Armouires.
The conference was a great day for us which started at the early time of 7am to avoid the busy traffic in Leeds (which we still got stuck in). We arrived at the conference for around 8.15am and finished setting up our stand. Which didn’t take too long as Mark and Paul had already taken over the majority of our stuff the day before along with our very heavy Touch Tower; which we take along to many conferences and can be very tricky to transport, however this conference was on the ground floor which made it all a lot easier! And thanks to the guys working at Royal Armouires who helped us get the touch tower in and out of the car (see our slideshow for photos.)
Although we were exhibiting as ME Consultancy Ltd we focused most of our efforts on promoting SMileS our SMS marketing software platform. Which turned out to be a great success with many fellow exhibitors and delegates taking a great interest in our SMileS SMS online platform; leading to some great new contacts and business prospects.
