Yorkshire Mafia Conference 2012
After weeks of prepping for the event, sorting out our stand and tweeting all about it….the biggest conference in the North was finally upon us, The Yorkshire Mafia Conference.
The conference was held at the Royal Armouires in Leeds on the 21st and 22nd of March. As soon as we arrived at the event the atmosphere had a really buzz and everyone was full of enthusiasm for what the two day conference had in store. With around 150 businesses exhibiting at the conference, over 3000 delegates expected over the two days and an exciting seminar list the event was set to be a great networking event for all involved full of opportunities and prospects.
We were exhibiting at the conference in the Armouries Hall on stand 8. We’d already set up our stand on Tuesday afternoon so only had a few last minute things to do to get our stand ready, however our trusty Touch Tower which we take along to all conferences blew the screen just before the conference started. It tripped all the electric on our side of the conference hall, leaving many of the stands without electricity. Although the Touch Tower was still a good attraction to have at our stand we couldn’t manage to fix it to load our presentation about our products and services, plus we had lists of memorable geographical numbers which where for sale and available on the day.
It was a fantastic location for our stand as we were right next to the entrance for the seminars being held in the Bury Theatre, which meant we had a good flow of traffic passing by our stand throughout the two days. If you want to know more about what was going on at our stand visit our previous blog post – ‘Why you should visit us at Stand 8 at The Yorkshire Mafia Conference.’
The conference was a great opportunity to catch up with fellow mafia members and to meet new contacts who may not be members of the Yorkshire Mafia networking group. There was a range of businesses exhibiting at the event and we managed to sneak away from our stand for a few minutes and visit our fellow exhibitors including Geoff Major ‘North Pole Trek’ on Stand 24, STEPteam on Stand 46, Aquapoint Ltd on Stand 47 and Advice extra on Stand 34 just to name a few!
We attended many of the seminars over the two day conference including; Jonathan Straight’s seminar which was excellent, he has such a unique character, that uniqueness has enabled him to create an amazing business from recycling long before it was trendy. We also went to The ‘Hey Big Spenders’ panel which gave SME’s good insight into how to compete for a slice of the big action. The Billion Pound Panel – was a fantastic seminar, so insightful, Gary Verity entertained once more, I think if he wasn’t such a successful businessman he could easily have been a stand up comedian. We finished off the conference by attending Ken Brook – Chrispin’s seminar about Seabrook Crisps; which was very interesting, he spoke about how Seabrook have overcome challenges from their rival competitors and how they’ve become one of the most successful well-known crisps brands in the UK.
The event was a great success for us as we met some great new contacts and came away with lots of prospects. It was also great to attend a variety of seminars to soak up some handy tips and advice from some industry experts. Overall, the conference was all about encouraging local businesses within Yorkshire to get together and network to identify where we could work together or advice we could share…all of which emphases just how beneficial it is to be part of such a tight knit group of networkers who are all willing to share stories, work together and encourage business to make Yorkshire a more profitable place.
